Velingrad transfers – the spa capital of the Balkans

Velingrad is a small town in the Chepino valley, between the Rhodope, Rila and Pirin mountains. It is famous for its many mineral springs, which is why it is often called the spa capital of the Balkans. People come here to relax in mineral pools, for medical treatment, for a long family weekend or for a company event at one of the hotels. The town has no airport and the train is slow, so a transfer with a private driver is the most convenient way to get here.

Sofia and Sofia Airport to Velingrad

From Sofia or Sofia Airport to Velingrad it is about 140 km, around 2 h 15 min. The usual route takes the Trakia motorway to Pazardzhik, then heads south through the scenic gorge of the Chepinska river. From Plovdiv, Pazardzhik and other cities

Velingrad and the ski resorts

Velingrad makes a handy base for a winter holiday where skiing and mineral water go together. Bansko is about 75 km away, around 1 h 25 min; Borovets about 90 km, around 1 h 35 min; and Pamporovo about 135 km, around 3 h. Some visitors ski for a few days and then come down to Velingrad to unwind. See also our Bansko transfers.

In winter the road through the gorge and up into the valley can be snowy. The price, however, is fixed and does not change if the trip takes longer.

Velingrad all year round

Unlike the ski resorts and the seaside, Velingrad has no off-season. In winter, hot outdoor mineral pools are a special treat with snow all around. In spring and autumn people come for treatment and rehabilitation, and in summer the town is a cool escape from the heat. Long weekends and public holidays are the busiest times, so book your transfer early for those dates. If you have a treatment booked on your first day, let us know and we will plan the departure time around it.

Day trips in the area

There are plenty of beautiful places around Velingrad: Batak reservoir and Tsigov Chark, Devin with its mineral water, Trigrad and the Yagodinska cave. Devin is about 110 km away, around 2 h 25 min, and Trigrad about 105 km, around 2 h 15 min. The Rila Monastery is about 160 km away, around 2 h 40 min, and the Seven Rila Lakes about 140 km, around 2 h 45 min.

For trips like these you can hire a car with a driver for a few hours or a full day. The driver waits while you explore and then takes you back to your hotel.
