Pamporovo transfers in the Rhodope mountains

Pamporovo is the ski resort at the heart of the Rhodope mountains, close to Smolyan and Chepelare. Its slopes are gentler than in other resorts, which is why it is a favourite with families and with people who are just learning to ski or snowboard. The road up winds through the mountains with plenty of bends, so a transfer with a private driver is the most relaxed way to start your holiday.

Plovdiv to Pamporovo

Plovdiv is the nearest major city to Pamporovo. The trip is about 85 km and takes around 1 h 45 min. The route goes through Asenovgrad, past Bachkovo Monastery, then up the valley of the Chepelarska river through Chepelare to the resort. During the ski season, flights carrying holidaymakers bound for the Rhodopes also land at Plovdiv Airport. We pick you up straight from the airport and drive you to your hotel in Pamporovo, without going through the city centre.

Sofia Airport to Pamporovo

If you arrive at Sofia Airport, Pamporovo is about 230 km away, a drive of around 3 h 30 min. The first part follows the Trakia motorway to Plovdiv, and then the mountain section begins. The price for this route is in the Sofia Airport price list.

From the coast and other cities

We drive to Pamporovo from all over the country. From Stara Zagora it is about 155 km, around 2 h 30 min, and from Burgas about 305 km, around 3 h 40 min. If you want to switch resorts during your holiday, we also drive from Pamporovo to Borovets and Bansko, and to Velingrad for a few days of rest in a mineral pool. Velingrad to Pamporovo is about 135 km, around 3 h.

Families, children and skis

Most families travel with lots of luggage: skis for everyone, boots, helmets, a sledge and suitcases. When you book, tell us how many of you there are and what you are bringing, so we send a car with enough room:

• Sedan – up to 4 passengers.
• Minivan – up to 6 passengers, with more room for skis and snowboards.
• Minibus – up to 8 passengers, for two families together or a ski group.
• More than 8 people – get in touch and we will suggest a bus or several cars.

Baby seats, child seats and boosters come at no extra cost. Just ask for them when you book and tell us how old your children are.

Winter roads in the Rhodopes

The road from Asenovgrad to Pamporovo is a mountain road, full of bends and narrow in places. In winter, snow slows things down and the trip can take longer than usual. Your price stays the same, because it is fixed in advance and does not depend on conditions along the way.

If your children get carsick on winding roads, let the driver know you need a short break on the way. For the return trip to the airport, allow extra time, especially if it is snowing.

The Rhodopes in summer

Pamporovo is lovely in summer too, for forest walks and cool air far from the heat of the plains. There is a lot to see around the resort: Shiroka Laka, Trigrad and Devin. You can hire a car with a driver for a few hours or a full day and tour the villages without worrying about the road or parking.

From Plovdiv, Shiroka Laka is about 95 km, around 2 h; Devin about 91 km, around 2 h; and Trigrad about 110 km, around 2 h 20 min. Smolyan is about 100 km from Plovdiv, around 2 h 15 min. These routes also suit people who come to the Rhodopes for work, a wedding or to visit family, not just to ski.
