Sofia Airport to Borovets: the quickest way to the slopes

From Sofia Airport to Borovets it is about 75 km, around 1 h 30 min. The road passes Samokov and then climbs through pine forest to the resort. If you land in the afternoon, you can pick up your rental skis that same evening and be ready for the first lift in the morning. The price is in the Sofia Airport price list.

From Sofia, Plovdiv and other cities

Many people head to Borovets straight from home in Sofia, for example on Friday after work. From an address in the city it is also about 75 km, around 1 h 30 min. Prices from the city are in the Sofia price list.

Plovdiv to Borovets is about 125 km, around 2 h. This suits guests who land at Plovdiv Airport, and Plovdiv locals who prefer the Rila mountains to the Rhodopes. See the Plovdiv price list. From Velingrad to Borovets it is about 90 km, around 1 h 35 min.

Who travels with us to Borovets

In winter, Borovets draws visitors from abroad who come for a week of skiing, and ski groups, often with children. Groups of friends from Sofia also go up on Friday evening and come back on Sunday. And some people want just one day on the slopes, so they hire a car with a driver for the full day: up the mountain in the morning, back to the capital in the evening.

Our group has around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, around 100 buses and around 20 luxury Mercedes cars. That lets us handle a large ski school just as easily as a couple who booked at the last minute.

The right car for skis and snowboards

Before you book, count your ski bags, snowboards and suitcases. Boots and helmets take more space than you might think. Tell us what you are bringing, and we will choose the car:

• Sedan – up to 4 people with moderate luggage.
• Minivan – up to 6 people, more space for skis.
• Minibus – up to 8 people, for ski groups and families with children.
• Larger groups – for more than 8 people, message us and we will find a solution.

Travelling with children? Baby seats, child seats and boosters come at no extra cost. Just ask for them when you book.

Winter driving

The last stretch to Borovets is a mountain road. In snow and ice the traffic moves more slowly, and on Sunday afternoons, when everyone heads back to Sofia, the road through Samokov gets busy. Your price stays the same however long the trip takes, because it is fixed in advance.

For the return to the airport, we suggest leaving with plenty of time to spare, especially on days with snowfall. If you are not sure when to set off, ask the operator when you book.

If your flight is early in the morning, book the transfer the day before, so there is no last-minute stress. We set off in the middle of the night too, because we work 24/7. Your driver collects you from the hotel entrance. If you have rented skis, return them the evening before so you do not lose time in the morning.

Borovets outside the ski season

In summer Borovets is a starting point for hikes in the Rila mountains, Musala included. From Sofia Airport to the Seven Rila Lakes it is about 100 km, around 2 h 15 min, and to the Rila Monastery about 130 km, around 2 h. To see these places in a single day, hire a car with a driver for a few hours or a full day. The driver waits for you and takes you back to your hotel.
