Which airport to use from Stara Zagora

The right airport depends on your flight, and we drive to all of them:

• Plovdiv Airport – Plovdiv is about 105 km away, around 1 h 15 min on the Trakia motorway. See our Plovdiv transfers.

On your way home we track your flight in real time. If the plane is late, the driver waits as long as needed, at no extra charge, whichever airport you land at.

To the seaside

From Stara Zagora the drive to the southern Black Sea coast is short and easy along the Trakia motorway. Pomorie is about 190 km, around 1 h 55 min; Sunny Beach is about 205 km, around 2 h; and Sozopol is about 210 km, also around 2 h. Primorsko and Kiten are about 225 to 230 km away.

Many families would rather travel with a driver than take their own car, so they do not have to worry about parking at the coast in high season. A minivan has room for luggage, beach umbrellas and a pushchair.

To the mountains and inland

To the north, across the Balkan Mountains, lies Veliko Tarnovo, about 110 km away, around 1 h 35 min. Kazanlak and the Valley of the Roses are very close, about 35 km, around 35 min. We also drive to Nova Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, Haskovo and Dimitrovgrad.

In winter we take skiers to Pamporovo, about 155 km, around 2 h 30 min; to Borovets, about 215 km; and to Bansko, about 250 km, around 3 h 30 min. Let us know when you book if you are bringing skis or a snowboard.

To Turkey and Greece

Stara Zagora is fairly close to the Turkish border. The Kapitan Andreevo crossing is about 115 km, around 1 h 35 min; Edirne is about 130 km, around 2 h; and Istanbul's new airport is about 345 km, around 4 h 15 min. See our Istanbul Airport page. Who travels from Stara Zagora

We drive Trakia University students heading home with their luggage, people travelling for work to Plovdiv, Sofia or the Maritsa East energy complex, and relatives meeting family members arriving from abroad. We also drive visitors who come to see the Roman forum of Augusta Traiana or the rose harvest in Kazanlak.

You can also hire a car with a driver for a few hours or a full day. It is handy for business meetings in several towns, a wedding, a prom night or a day trip to Kazanlak and Shipka. The driver waits for you between stops.
