Ruse to Bucharest airport and back

For many people in northern Bulgaria, the Bucharest airports are the closest option for flights abroad. Ruse to Bucharest is about 100 km, around 2 h, crossing the Danube Bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu. That is a shorter trip than to Sofia Airport or Varna Airport.

Other airports we drive to from Ruse

Varna Airport is about 190 km away, around 2 h 15 min. It is a good choice in summer, when there are plenty of flights to the coast, and for travellers who would rather stay in Bulgaria the whole way.

From Ruse to the seaside

Every summer many families from Ruse and from Romania head for the Black Sea. Here are approximate distances:

• Golden Sands – about 210 km, around 2 h 30 min.
• Albena – about 225 km, around 2 h 30 min.
• Burgas – about 240 km, around 3 h 30 min.
• Sunny Beach – about 260 km, around 3 h 25 min.

Trips around northern Bulgaria and to the mountains

Veliko Tarnovo is about 110 km from Ruse, around 1 h 35 min, and Arbanasi is about 105 km. Closer still are Razgrad, about 65 km away, Svishtov, about 85 km, Shumen and Silistra. We regularly take people to Pleven, Gabrovo and Lovech for work, medical visits or to see family.

In winter we drive to the ski resorts. Borovets and Pamporovo are each about 370 km away, and Bansko about 470 km. If you carry skis or a snowboard, a minivan is the better choice, so all your kit fits. Plovdiv is about 315 km, around 4 h.

Trips abroad from Ruse

As well as Bucharest, we drive from Ruse to Brasov, about 260 km away, and to Constanta, about 275 km. We also go to Istanbul, Edirne, Thessaloniki, Athens, Skopje and Belgrade.
