Who lands at Plovdiv and drives on

Plovdiv Airport is small and quiet, a short drive south-east of the city. Most of the people we pick up there do not stay in Plovdiv at all. In winter it is skiers from charter flights going up to the Rhodopes, Rila or Pirin. All year it is Bulgarians who live abroad and fly home on a low-cost flight, business travellers on their way to Stara Zagora, and people who landed at Plovdiv but have a hotel, a meeting or the next flight in Sofia. For all of them the question is the same: how to get from a small airport to a place 100 or 150 km away, with luggage, at the hour the plane lands. A car that is already waiting is the simple answer.

Plovdiv Airport to Sofia Airport: a flight in, a flight out

Sofia Airport is about 145 km away and our price list counts about 1 h 45 min. The car takes the Trakia motorway to the west and reaches Sofia Airport on the east side of the capital, so it does not have to cross the city. This is the transfer for people who fly into Plovdiv and out of Sofia, or the other way round. If you plan such a connection, send us both flight numbers. We count the drive, add time for check-in in Sofia, and tell you honestly if the gap between the two flights is too short. The car stops at the departures entrance of Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, whichever your airline uses.

Plovdiv Airport to Sofia city

To an address or a hotel in Sofia the price is €110 for a sedan, €130 for a minivan and €150 for a minibus. The trip is about 165 km and about 2 h: the Trakia motorway first, then the Sofia ring road or the boulevards into town. On weekday evenings the traffic at the entrance to Sofia is heavier, so a flight that lands in the late afternoon can mean a little more time in the car. The price stays the same.

From Plovdiv Airport to the ski resorts

For skiers Plovdiv Airport is a good door to the mountains, and the driver takes you from the arrivals hall straight to your hotel in the resort, without a stop in the city.

Pamporovo

The closest resort: about 85 km and about 1 h 45 min, €80 per sedan. The airport lies on the side of Plovdiv that faces the Rhodopes, so the car heads south towards Asenovgrad and climbs into the mountains without going through the city.

Borovets

About 125 km and 2 h, €90 per sedan. Most of the way is motorway towards Sofia, and the last part is the road up into Rila.

Bansko

The longest of the three: about 150 km and 2 h 30 min, €120 per sedan. The road crosses the mountains to Razlog and Bansko, and on days with heavy snow it is worth planning some extra time.

Plovdiv Airport to Stara Zagora

Stara Zagora is about 105 km to the east on the Trakia motorway, about 1 h 45 min by our price list. A sedan is €90, a minivan €110, a minibus €130. It is a common trip for people who work in the industrial zones around the city or visit family there. More about the city in Taxi Stara Zagora.

Where the driver waits at Plovdiv Airport

The driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name, and before the trip you get his phone number. Our drivers speak English, so you can sort out any small change on the spot. Skis, groups and children

A sedan takes up to 4 people with normal suitcases. Ski bags and boot bags take a lot of space, so four skiers with equipment should book a minivan, which takes up to 6. A minibus takes up to 8, and for a larger group or a ski school we arrange a bus, price on request. Why not a bus or a train?

From Plovdiv Airport to Sofia or to the mountains by bus or train you first have to get into Plovdiv and change there, with all the luggage and with fixed timetables. That can work in the middle of the day with a backpack. With skis, children or a late landing, a car that waits at the arrivals hall is much easier, and for three or four people the price per person is not far from the cost of the tickets and the taxis in between.
