The route: about 385 km via Ruse
The distance from Sofia to Bucharest is about 385 km, roughly 380–400 km depending on where exactly you start in Sofia and where you go in Bucharest. The driver goes from Sofia to Ruse on the Danube, crosses the river on the Danube Bridge to Giurgiu in Romania and continues north to Bucharest. Plan around five and a half hours from door to door, with a short break on the way. If you want more breaks or a stop in a town on the way, just tell us when you book.

Crossing the border at Ruse–Giurgiu
The border between Bulgaria and Romania here is the Danube river. The crossing is the Danube Bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu, the road and rail bridge that connects the two countries. Bulgaria and Romania are both in the European Union and, since 1 January 2025, both are full members of the Schengen area. That is why there is normally no regular passport control on the bridge, but checks can still happen, so every passenger must carry a valid travel document.
There is a toll for crossing the Danube Bridge; ask us about it when you book. If there is a queue or road works on the bridge, the driver plans for it, and you can sit back and rest.

- EU citizens: a valid ID card or a valid passport.
- Everyone else: a valid passport, and a visa if your nationality needs one for the Schengen area.
- Children: every child needs their own valid ID card or passport.

Up to 6 passengers plus the driver, depending on luggage. For a bigger family or a small group, or as a car with an extra-large boot for fewer people with a lot of luggage, sports bags or a pram.

For groups of up to 8 people with luggage. One vehicle for the whole group, one fixed price.

Taxi from Sofia Airport to Bucharest
If you land at Sofia Airport, you do not need to go into the city first. The driver meets you at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and you start the trip to Bucharest right away. Send us your flight number when you book. If the flight is delayed, the driver waits for you as long as needed, and you do not pay extra for the waiting.
